Pertempuran Ueno

Pertempuran Ueno (上野戦争, Ueno Sensō) adalah sebuah pertempuran pada saat Perang Boshin, yang terjadi pada 4 Juli 1868 (Meiji 1, hari ke-15 bulan ke-5),[1] antara pasukan Shōgitai di bawah pimpinan Shibusawa Seiichirō dan Amano Hachirō, dan pasukan "Kangun" Kekaisaran.

Prelude

Meskipun kebanyakan Shōgitai membuat kembali tempat tinggal Tokugawa di provinsi-provinsi pesisir, beberapa domain mendukung Shōgitai, seperti Takada han (Provinsi Echigo, 150,000 koku), Obama han (Provinsi Wakasa, 103,000 koku), Takasaki han (Provinsi Kōzuke, 52,000 koku), dan Yūki han (Provinsi Shimosa, 18,000 koku).[2]

Mereka dihadapkan dengan para pasukan yang tergabung dari domain Chōshū, Ōmura, Sadowara, Hizen, Chikugo, Owari, Bizen, Tsu, Inaba, dan Higo, di bawah komando jenderal Ōmura Masujirō dari Chōshū.[3]

Shibusawa dan Amano awalnya memiliki kekuatan sebanyak 2000 Shōgitai yang diposkan di Ueno untuk melindungi Tokugawa Yoshinobu, yang pada waktu itu berjaga diri di Kuil Kan'ei-ji di Ueno, serta Pangeran Rinnōji no Miya Yoshihisa, yang merupakan kepala kuil tersebut,[4] dan menjadi pemimpin dinasti baru dari resistensi Tokugawa sebagai "Kaisar Tōbu".
