Tanjung York

Semenanjung Cape York merupakan sebuah semenanjung di utara Queensland, Australia. Cape York merupakan ujung semenanjung dan titik paling utara di benua Australia. Dinamai oleh Lt. James Cook tahun 1770 setelah Yang Mulia Adipati York.[1]

Dari ujungnya, terdapat jarak 140 km menuju Nugini melintasi Selat Torres. Pantai barat berbatasan dengan Teluk Carpentaria dan pantai timur berbatasan dengan Laut Koral. Semenanjung Cape York memiliki luas 137.000 km² dan memiliki jumlah penduduk sekitar 18.000 jiwa, kebanyakan dari mereka Aborigin dan Penduduk Pulau Selat Torres.

Fisiografi

Wilayah ini juga dikenal sebagai Platform Tanjung York, yang mana merupakan salah satu provinsi fisiografis dalam divisi besar Cordillera Australia Timur. Daerah ini juga meliputi bagian fisiografis Coen Belt dan Selat Torres.
