Sungai Barumun adalah sungai di Sumatra yang bermata air di Siraisan, Kabupaten Padang Lawas di sebelah tenggara Provinsi Sumatera Utara, Indonesia, sekitar 1200 km di barat laut ibu kota Jakarta.[1][2]

Hidrologi

Sungai ini mengalir ke arah utara melalui Padang Lawas Utara, Labuhanbatu Selatan, dan Kabupaten Labuhan Batu sebelum mencapai pantai timur Sumatra dengan muaranya di Selat Malaka.

Kota terbesar di tepi sungai Barumun adalah Kotapinang, Labuhan Batu Selatan, dengan populasi 54.000 orang.[3] Sedangkan kota terbesar di daerah aliran sungai Barumun adalah Rantau Prapat, yang terletak di Bilah dengan populasi 164.000 orang. Sungai ini adalah salah satu sungai terbesar di Sumatra dengan panjang sekitar 440   km.

Anak sungai

Anak-anak sungai termasuk Sungai Bila (Bilah), Kanan, Batang Pane, Sihapas, Batang Taris dan Aek Sangkilon. Semua anak Sungai Barumun bersumber dari daerah pegunungan di sepanjang Pegunungan Bukit Barisan.

Geografi

Sungai ini mengalir di wilayah utara pulau Sumatra yang beriklim hutan hujan tropis (kode: Af menurut klasifikasi iklim Köppen-Geiger).[4] Suhu rata-rata setahun sekitar 23 °C. Bulan terpanas adalah Mei, dengan suhu rata-rata 25 °C, and terdingin Januari, sekitar 22 °C.[5] Curah hujan rata-rata tahunan adalah 2801 mm. Bulan dengan curah hujan tertinggi adalah November, dengan rata-rata 381 mm, dan yang terendah Maret, rata-rata 126 mm.[6]
