Sungai Sumida (隅田川, Sumidagawa) adalah sungai yang mengalir di Tokyo, Jepang. Sungai ini berasal dari percabangan Sungai Arakawa di Kita, Tokyo (Pintu Air Iwabuchi), dan bersatu dengan Sungai Shingashi yang mengalir di Prefektur Saitama. Sungai Sumida bersama anak-anak sungai yang disebut Sungai Shingashi, Sungai Shakujii, Sungai Kanda, dan Sungai Nihonbashi bermuara di Teluk Tokyo. Festival Kembang Api Sumidagawa adalah acara tahunan yang diselenggarakan di tepian Sungai Sumida.

Sejarah

Sungai Sumida dulunya merupakan bagian hilir Sungai Arakawa. Pada zaman Edo, bagian sungai di Asakusa disebut orang dengan nama Sungai Asakusa atau Sungai Sumida. Bagian hulunya disebut Sungai Arakawa atau Sungai Miyako. Pada tahun 1910, kanal drainase Sungai Arakawa dibangun untuk mencegah banjir.[1] Setelah itu pada tahun 1965, kanal drainase Sungai Arakawa hanya disebut sebagai Sungai Arakawa, bagian hilir sungai dari Pintu Air Iwabuchi hingga ke muara di Teluk Tokyo secara resmi disebut Sungai Sumida.[1]
