Twitch.tv adalah situs layanan video yang memungkinkan pengguna mengunggah (uploading), melakukan pengaliran langsung (live streaming), dan praktik bermain (gameplay) dari suatu permainan video (video game) dari berbagai platform ke ribuan pemirsa (viewers) secara waktu nyata (real time).

Sejarah

Twitch merupakan perusahaan rintisan yang berbasis di San Francisco, AS. Twitch pada awalnya adalah bagian dari sebuah situs layanan berbagi video bernama Justin.tv yang didirikan oleh Justin Kan bersama beberapa temannya, yaitu Emmett Shear, Kyle Vogt, dan Michael Seibel pada tahun 2007.[2]

Sebagai salah satu platform video live streaming terbesar di dunia, Justin.tv diklaim menyajikan lebih dari 300 juta video live streaming di lebih dari 250 negara setiap bulannya. Bahkan, penikmat video di Amerika Serikat tercatat menghabiskan lebih banyak waktu menyaksikan video di Justin.tv daripada di YouTube.

Pada tahun 2011, guna memperkaya konten yang telah ditawarkan di Justin.tv, Justin Kan membuat sebuah fitur khusus yang menangani konten gaming dengan nama Twitch, yang kini sukses menjadi salah satu komunitas video game terbesar berbasis web.[3]
