73.58% of the population of Bardhaman Sadar North subdivision live in the rural areas. Only 26.42% of the population live in the urban areas, and that is the highest proportion of urban population amongst the four subdivisions in Purba Bardhaman district.[5] The map alongside presents some of the notable locations in the subdivision. Demographics
As per the 2011 Census of India Bhatar had a total population of 3.383, of which 1,702 (50%) were males and 1,681 (50%) were females. Population below 6 years was 355. The total number of literates in Bhatar was 2,164 (71.47% of the population over 6 years).[6]
Bhatar Rural Hospital at Bhatar (with 60 beds) is the main medical facility in Bhatar CD block. There are primary health centres at Balgona (with 2 beds), Bijipur, PO Basuda (with 6 beds), Bonpass (with 10 beds), Erruar, PO Aruarar (with 10 beds), Nasigram (with 6 beds) and Sahebganj (with 4 beds).[10]
