Should we put proposed systems on here as well? - I would be inclined to say not. David Arthur 21:42, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2006-02-20T21:42:00.000Z","author":"DavidArthur","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-DavidArthur-2006-02-20T21:42:00.000Z-ProhibitOnions-2006-02-20T20:38:00.000Z","replies":["c-ProhibitOnions-2006-02-20T22:51:00.000Z-DavidArthur-2006-02-20T21:42:00.000Z"],"displayName":"David Arthur"}}-->
- As the proposed systems currently have little chance of being built, I would agree with you. However, I would suggest putting systems under construction on the template, if there were any. Oh well, it seemed like a good question at the time. Regards, ProhibitOnions 22:51, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2006-02-20T22:51:00.000Z","author":"ProhibitOnions","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-ProhibitOnions-2006-02-20T22:51:00.000Z-DavidArthur-2006-02-20T21:42:00.000Z","replies":["c-DavidArthur-2006-02-21T15:25:00.000Z-ProhibitOnions-2006-02-20T22:51:00.000Z"]}}-->
- Yes, certainly I would say to include systems actually being built, but given the current political climate, all of the ‘proposed’ systems seem highly hypothetical, and I don’t think it would be productive or informative to list them on this template. - I have taken the liberty of removing the Mersey Railway Tunnel from the template seeing as it isn't a standalone metro or light rail system.
- I agree that proposed systems or those under construction should be included in their own section of the template. However, how it is decided which are included and which aren't, I do not know. The Edinburgh tram line has recently been approved (I believe), so it's more likely to come to fruition than the Leeds system, for example. - Agreed as to the removal of the Mersey Railway Tunnel - it’s part of National Rail, if an unusually-independent part. As for Edinburgh, I still wouldn’t list it until it has some sort of existence off paper. As Llandudno's Great Orme Tramway is a street-running tramway used as a public transport service I feel it definately belongs on this template. Birkenhead might too. User:Tom walker, 20:42 GMT, 24 February 2006.
I am trying to think of a counter example for this, but failing, if the Isle of Man is in the UK, then what about the Douglas Tram? It is definately used as public transport, but is also mainly a tourist attraction. John 22:44, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2006-02-24T22:44:00.000Z","author":"Jp347","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Jp347-2006-02-24T22:44:00.000Z-Great_Orme_Tramway","replies":[],"displayName":"John"}}-->
The Douglas tram is horse-drawn- but could be included. Birkenhead is a strong candidate. Some might argue Seaton is used as pubic transport but that is essentially a very big miniature line. I feel Llandudno is used by several hundreds of people to get up the Great Orme and back down where alternatives are limited and therefore ought to be included. User:Tom walker 25 February 2006.
Do you want to include it again then, and any others you think ought to be there, and then see if they attract comment? By the way, I originally removed it because the mrto template was not on the Great Orme page, which was inconsistant, and I felt removing it was more sensible. - The Isle of Man systems are certainly a possibility. Another would be to change the template to the UK and Ireland and including Dublin (Luas, DART) as well. - It is — look under ‘Metros’. Although the name ‘light rail’ usually refers to trams of some sort, the Docklands Light Railway is a fully-separated metro, incapable of operating on streets in its current form because of the third-rail power and automatic operation. shouldn't Merseyrail and North London Line be here?

No. These are part of the National Rail network and are not metro systems. Preston will be getting a metro system soon, which I'm sure most people will know about, so when will that be added, if at all? Tez011 (talk) 19:29, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2011-09-26T19:29:00.000Z","author":"Tez011","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Tez011-2011-09-26T19:29:00.000Z-Preston","replies":[]}}-->
It will be added when a reliable mainstream source reports that its construction has commenced. However given how unlikely it is for a town the size of Preston to have a light rail system, when many of our major cities lack one, I would say that this is a long way off.
