Luis Sodiro (nacíu Luigi Aloysius Sodiro 29 de mayu de 1836, Vicenza, Italia - 15 de mayu de 1909, Quitu, Ecuador) ) foi un relixosu, botánicu de campu ecuatorianu, que describió un gran númberu d'especies del hinterland de Quitu, Ecuador, dende la so llegada en 1870 hasta principios del s. XX.

Biografía

En 1856, ye ordenáu na Compañía de Xesús, y parte a estudiar a Innsbruck teoloxía, filosofía, llingües, ciencies naturales. Foi'l primeru en realizar recueyes ya identificaciones verdaderamente a campu.

Dictó cursos de Botánica na "Escuela Politéunica" y na "Universidá Central de Quitu" y nesi sentíu reemplazó al Profesor Jameson. Sodiro recoyó en tol país, con muncho énfasis pela redolada de Quitu. El so yerbariu priváu tien 22.000 coleiciones (incluyendo duplicaos) y ta depositáu na "Biblioteca Aurelio Espinosa Pólit" (QPLS) en Quitu.[1]

Foi'l primer direutor del Xardín Botánicu de Quitu, allugáu nel Parque L'Alamea, entidá que foi fundada pola so amiga personal Marieta de Veintimilla mientres la presidencia del so tíu, el Xeneral Ignacio de Veintimilla.
