Чарлз Шылер (англ.: Charles Sheeler; 16 ліпеня 1883, Філадэльфія, штат Пенсільванія — 7 мая 1965, Добс-Феры, штат Нью-Ёрк) — амерыканскі мастак-рэаліст, адзін з найбуйнейшых прадстаўнікоў прэцызіянізму і амерыканскай мастацкай фатаграфіі XX стагоддзя.

Жыццё і творчасць

Ч. Шылер нарадзіўся ў сям’і менеджара параходнай кампаніі. У 1903—1906 гадах вучыўся ў Пенсільванскай Акадэміі прыгожых мастацтваў, пасля чаго працаваў прафесійным фатографам. У 1908 годзе наведаў Парыж, дзе пазнаёміўся з кубізмам і творчасцю П. Пікасо і Ж. Брака. У 1910—1918 гадах арандаваў, сумесна з сябрам-мастаком, ферму ў Пенсільваніі; у гэты перыяд шмат займаўся фатаграфіяй.

Упершыню мастак прэзентаваў свае шэсць карцін у 1913 годзе на Арсенальнай выставе ў Нью-Ёрку. Яго зварот да фатаграфіі, у першую чаргу архітэктурнай фатаграфіі, быў выкліканы сур’ёзнымі матэрыяльнымі праблемамі. Першы буйны поспех прыйшоў да Шылера ў 1927 годзе, пасля выканання замовы кампаніі «Форд» па фатаграфіі яго завода ў горадзе Рывер-Руж (штат Мічыган) — гэтая фотапраца вядомая пад назвай The Plant і адлюстроўвае тую класічную прыгажосць сучаснай вытворчасці, прыгажосць стагоддзя машын і механізмаў. Наступным этапам яго мастацкай кар’еры сталі карціны American Landscape (1930), Classic Landscape (1931) і, у асаблівасці, City Interior (1935), якая таксама дэманструе індустрыяльны пейзаж. Для многіх яго мастацкіх работ асновай паслужылі зробленыя мастаком раней фотаздымкі.

Чарлз Шылер памёр 7 мая 1965 года ў Добс-Феры (штат Нью-Ёрк). Пахаваны на могілках Сонная Лагчына, Нью-Ёрк.
