The Labour Party maintained control of the council, with their seat count holding steady. For the third year in a row, the Conservative Party lost three seats, all to Labour; the party would additionally lose a seat in Pudsey two days after the election when Trish Smith, re-elected the previous year, resigned to sit as an independent.[4] The Green Party also succeeded in taking three seats from Labour and saw the largest popular vote share increase out of any of the parties, though Labour in turn unseated Green group leader David Blackburn, preventing the Greens from equalling the Liberal Democrats as the third-largest group on the council. The Social Democratic Party took the third seat in Middleton Park, wiping out the Labour Party's representation in the ward, and all other parties held level in their seat count.[5]
