Alec Utgoff (Ukrainian: Олег Володимирович Утгоф; born 1 March 1986)[3] is a British actor known for his roles in various films and television series. Born in Kyiv, Ukraine, he moved to the UK at a young age. Utgoff pursued acting and graduated from the prestigious Drama Centre London, where he completed both BA and MA degrees. His acting career began with a role in the film 'The Tourist,' which he secured while still completing his final year. He initially focused on theater, performing a wide range of roles, and is considered a classically trained actor. Utgoff is best known for his portrayal of Aleksandr Borovsky in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and Dr. Alexei in the third season of Stranger Things.[4] His other notable roles include Alexi in San Andreas (2015),[1][5] Dmitri in Mortdecai (2015)[6] and Yuri/Dimitri in The Wrong Mans (2015).[7]
One of Utgoff's notable achievements is his lead role in the film "Never Gonna Snow Again," which received numerous accolades in prestigious festivals. The film premiered at the 77th Venice International Film Festival, where it competed in the main competition. It was also selected as the Polish entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 93rd Academy Awards.[8]
Early life
Utgoff was born in Kyiv, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union (now Kyiv, Ukraine) to Roza, a musical conductor, and Volodymyr, a heart surgeon who is an honored doctor of modern-day Ukraine.[1] In 1996, at the age of 10, he moved to London, England. His brother Alan is an economist and his parents now live in Spain.[2] Ethnically he is half Russian, half Ossetian with some ethnic German ancestry on his father's side.[9][10] He is fluent in Russian, Ukrainian and English.
