The airport resides at an elevation of 3 m (9.8 ft) above mean sea level. It has one runway designated 12/30 with an asphalt surface measuring 3,000 m × 45 m (9,843 ft × 148 ft).[1]
On February 20, 2020, damages to the only airport runway forced tourist passengers to return to the mainland via boat.[3]
Still as of October 30, 2023, only two airlines operate: Sunwing Airlines and Cubana de Aviación, with 3 times as many flights with the former as there are with the latter.[4]
Three Cuban airports have non-stop domestic flights to Cayo Largo : Havana and Varadero with Cubana, and Santa Clara with Sunwing.[4]
