Derna[2]​ (en árabe: درنة‎) es una localidad de Libia, capital del distrito homónimo. La población, según estimación 2010 era de 49 118 habitantes.[1]​

Nombre

Las formas toponímicas griegas fueron Darnis y Darne,[3]​ y aunque a veces se encuentra la forma Dardanis, tal grafía se debió a un error.[4]​ Bajo Roma se la conoció como Darnis o Derna. En el Islam ha sido Derneh (Dernah) o Terneh (Ternah).

Historia

Viejo mercado en Derna.

Durante el período helenístico la ciudad fue parte de la Pentápolis libia.[3]​[6]​

Bajo Roma constituyó la metrópolis civil y luego religiosa de Libia Secunda o Libia inferior, que es la región Marmarica.[7]​

Inundaciones en 2023

La llegada de la tormenta Daniel ofreció un final funesto a un verano protagonizado por las olas de calor y los incendios en la cuenca del Mediterráneo. A su paso, las lluvias torrenciales han ocasionado inundaciones generalizadas que se han traducido en 30 000 desplazados y más de 7 000 muertos.[8]​
