Alvin Stardust

Alvin Stardust (1974)

Alvin Stardust (oik. Bernard William Jewry, 27. syyskuuta 1942 Muswell Hill, Pohjois-Lontoo – 23. lokakuuta 2014[1]) oli englantilainen laulaja ja näyttelijä.

Historia

1960-luvun alkupuolella hän tuli tunnetuksi nimellä Shane Fenton ja hänen taustabändinsä oli The Fentones. Heillä oli useita hittejä Englannin singlelistalla. Bändin soundi perustui The Shadowsin tyyliin. Hän myös esiintyi Billy Furyn elokuvassa Play It Cool.

Vuonna 1972 hän tutustui Peter Shelley -nimiseen säveltäjään ja levytuottajaan. Tämä oli perustamassa levy-yhtiötä Magnet Records ja oli kehittänyt Alvin Stardustin hahmon nahkavaatteineen ja sormuksineen. Stardustin ensisingle oli ”My Coo-Ca-Choo”, jonka lauloi Shelley; kaikissa myöhemmissä levytyksissä ja julkisissa esiintymisissä laulajana toimi Jewry[2]. Lisää hittejä seurasi: ”Jealous Mind” (listaykkönen), ”You, You, You”, ”Red Dress” ja ”Good Love Can Never Die”. Alvin Stardust kävi esiintymässä myös Suomessa mm. Helsingissä, Salossa ja Riihimäellä 1975, Oulun Kuusrokissa 1976[3] sekä Helsingissä ja Köyliössä vuonna 1981.[4] Vuonna 1985 Stardust osallistui A Song for Europe -kilpailuun eli Britannian euroviisukarsintaan laululla ”The Clock on the Wall”. Hän sijoittui kolmanneksi Vikin ja Kerri Wellsin jälkeen.

Stardust kuoli etäpesäkkeitä muodostaneeseen eturauhassyöpään.[5] Hän ehti saada valmiiksi albumin Alvin, joka ilmestyi postuumisti lokakuussa 2014.[6]
