Fantasmagoria

Fantasmagoria oli kauhuelokuvan edeltäjä[1].

Fantasmagoria (kreik. φαντασμα + αγορευειν, 'haamu' + 'puhua julkisesti') oli 1700-luvulla Ranskassa kehitetty valonäytös, joka oli suosittu myös muualla Euroopassa ja Britteinsaarilla 1800-luvulla.

Fantasmagorianäytöksessä käytettiin tarkoitukseen muokattua taikalyhtyä, jolla heijastettiin kuvia seinille, savuverhoon tai osittain läpinäkyville pinnoille. Heijastinlaitetta, ja siten sen aikaansaamia kuvia saattoi liikuttaa. Käyttämällä useampaa projektoria samanaikaisesti oli mahdollista vaihtaa kuvaa nopeasti. Näytöksissä esitettiin pelottavia hahmoja, kuten luurankoja, paholaisia ja kummituksia.
