PC-DOS

PC-DOS 1.10

PC-DOS (myös IBM DOS) on IBM:n Microsoftilta lisensoima käyttöjärjestelmä sen IBM PC -koneelle.[1][2]

IBM oli yrittänyt lisensoida CP/M-käyttöjärjestelmän mutta yritys kariutui.[3][4] Seurauksena IBM lisensoi käyttöjärjestelmän Microsoftilta.[5][6]

Microsoft hankki oikeudet QDOS-käyttöjärjestelmään, jonka nimi muuttui 86-DOS:ksi.[2][7] QDOS:in kehittäjä Tim Paterson siirtyi Microsoftille viimeistelemään käyttöjärjestelmän IBM:n vaatimusten mukaan, joka toi siihen CP/M:ää muistuttavia piirteitä.[2] 86-DOS muutti myöhemmin nimeä MS-DOS:ksi, joka IBM:n lisenssillä myytynä oli nimeltään PC-DOS.[2][1]

Microsoft ja IBM jakoivat versioon 5 asti saman koodipohjan ja PC-DOS on lähes samanlainen kuin MS-DOS, mutta eroaa joidenkin mukana toimitettujen apuohjelmien osalta.[8] Versiosta 6.1 eteenpäin PC-DOS oli IBM:n oma erillinen tuote.
