C 4/5

La C 4/5 est une locomotive à vapeur des chemins de fer fédéraux suisses.

Histoire

Originellement utilisé pour le chemin de fer du Gothard, ce modèle a servi de base pour la CFF C 5/6 « Eléphant ».

La Compagnie de chemin de fer du Gothard commande en 1905, à la société Maffei, huit de ces machines construites d'après un modèle de locomotives en service à la Deutsche Reichsbahn. Elles possèdent 4 cylindres avec huit roues accouplées et un tender, Longueur hors tout (locomotive et tender: 16,802 mètres), livrées en 1906 (N° 2801 - 2808) et retirées en 1925. Elles furent transférées aux CFF lors de la nationalisation en 1909^[1].

Deux autres séries furent commandées à la société SLM. La première série portait les numéros: 2701 – 2732 en 1904, retirées entre 1915 et 1920; 2704 - 2723 en 1905, retirées entre 1912 et 1961; 2724 - 2732, retirées entre 1930 et 1960; des quatre cylindres d'une puissance de 911 kW pour une vitesse de 65 km/h et un poids de 109 tonnes.

La seconde série avait les numéros: 2601 - 2610, construites entre 1907 et 1910; 2611 - 2612, construites en 1910; 2613 - 2615, construites en 1911; 26116 - 2619, construites en 1912, avec les mêmes caractéristiques que la série précédente. Elles ont toutes été modifiée entre 1930 et 1933 et elles ont reçu l'appellation E 4/4^[2].

Aucun exemplaire n'a été préservé.
