Toms Skujiņš est un coureur cycliste letton, né le à Sigulda, membre de l'équipe Trek-Segafredo. Il commence sa carrière professionnelle en 2011 dans l'équipe continentale VC La Pomme Marseille.

Biographie

En 2010, Toms Skujiņš obtient des bons résultats chez les espoirs où il termine notamment sixième de Paris-Tours espoirs et huitième du ZLM Tour. Il est présenté comme un coureur polyvalent[1],[2].

Il commence sa carrière professionnelle en 2011 dans l'équipe continentale VC La Pomme Marseille. Le 9 avril 2011, il termine deuxième du Tour des Flandres espoirs, battu par l'Italien Salvatore Puccio. Il est également quatrième de la Classic Loire Atlantique chez les élites. Après deux saisons dans l'équipe française, il retourne dans son pays natal au sein de l'équipe Rietumu-Delfin. Avec sa sélection nationale, il termine en 2013 troisième du championnat d'Europe sur route espoirs, septième du Tour des Flandres Espoirs et gagne la Course de la Paix espoirs[1]. En fin de saison, il est cinquième des mondiaux espoirs et est élu cycliste letton de l'année.

En 2014, Skujiņš rejoint l'équipe continentale américaine Hincapie Sportswear Development[2]. Il domine le Tour de Beauce, remportant l'étape reine au sommet du Mont Mégantic ainsi que la dernière étape. Il remporte le classement général, le classement par points et le maillot du meilleur jeune.

Il se révèle en mai 2015 lors du Tour de Californie, où il remporte la troisième étape. Il s'impose après avoir passé la plus grande partie de l'étape dans une échappée en solitaire. Il prend également le maillot de leader du général et le maillot du meilleur grimpeur[3], qu'il conserve jusqu'au contre-la-montre. Il obtient cette année-là de bons résultats sur le circuit américain, ce qui lui permet de remporter le classement de l'UCI America Tour.

Ces performances lui permettent de signer fin 2015 un contrat avec l'équipe World Tour Cannondale dirigée par Jonathan Vaughters[4]. En fin d'année, il est élu cycliste letton de l'année pour la deuxième fois.

En 2016, il remporte à nouveau une étape du Tour de Californie en échappée[5].

Au cours de la saison 2017, il termine en avril deuxième de la Semaine internationale Coppi et Bartali et remporte une étape de la course, signant le premier succès de l'année pour son équipe. En mai, il est victime d'une commotion cérébrale après une chute lors du Tour de Californie. Quelques mois plus tard, il dispute et termine son premier grand tour : la Vuelta 2017.

Fin , l'équipe Trek-Segafredo annonce avoir recruté Toms Skujiņš pour les saisons 2018 et 2019[6].

Fin juillet 2019, il est sélectionné pour représenter son pays aux championnats d'Europe de cyclisme sur route[7]. Il s'adjuge à cette occasion la quinzième place de la course en ligne[8].

Le 29 septembre 2024, il termine quatrième de la course en ligne de des championnats du monde sur route à Zurich dominée par Tadej Pogačar.
