Is ord rialta de chuid na hEaglaise Caitlicí iad na hAgaistínigh (Laidin: Ordo Sancti Augustini OSA), dream atá ar oird na mbráthar. Tá sé eisceachtúil i stair na hEaglaise nuair a chuireann Pápa ord ar bhun dá dheoin féin. D'ainmníodh an Ord Agaistíneach nua mar tríú ord bhráithre. Bhí an stádas sin ag na Proinnsiasaigh agus na Doiminicigh cheana féin agus tugadh an onóir chéanna chuig na Cairmilítigh ina dhiaidh sin. Leathnaigh an Ord nua go tapaidh in imeacht cúpla bliain.

Na hAgaistínigh in Éirinn

Cuireadh teach ar bhun i mBaile Átha Cliath sa bhliain 1280. Bhí na tithe Agaistíneacha in Éirinn bainte leis an bproibhins Sasanach den Ord agus bhí moill ar leathnú amach go dtí an cúigiú aois déag. Ansin tháinig an gluaiseacht léasaithe den ord chun cinn agus cuireadh tithe neamhspleácha ar bhun i gceantair Gaeltachta in Iarthar na hÉireann go háirithe. Bhíodh na tithe seo an tábhachtach san Eaglais Caitiliceach in Éirinn go dtí an Reifirméisin.[1]

Sa bhliain 1656, bunaíodh Coláiste Agaistíneach na nGael sa Róimh agus tháinig bráithre chun freastal ar Éireann tríd aimsir na Géarleanúna.
