Æthelred foi, no século VIII, un rei semihistórico de Anglia Oriental, un reino anglosaxón que hoxe inclúe os condados ingleses de Norfolk e Suffolk.

Traxectoria

Pénsase que gobernou nalgún momento entre os anos 760 e 790 e que estivo á fronte de Anglia Oriental durante o overlordship de Offa de Mercia. Sucedeu a tres reis que gobernaron xuntos Anglia Oriental despois de 749.

Non conservamos moedas co nome de Æthelred e as únicas fontes históricas únicas que o citan datan de despois da conquista normanda de Inglaterra, incluíndo as Vidas de Santo Æthelberht e as listas reais de Guillerme de Malmesbury[1]. Nas narrativas lendarias de Santo Æthelberht, Æthelred e a súa raíña, que se chamaba posibelmente Leofruna, ambos os dous vivían en Beodricesworth (moderno Bury St. Edmunds)[2].

Æthelred foi o pai de Æthelberht II de Anglia Oriental, quen o sucedeu sobre o 770.
