Castelo de Fermoselle


Vista desde o castelo.

O castelo de Fermoselle é unha fortaleza situada no concello español de Fermoselle (provincia de Zamora).[1] O castelo puido ser en orixe un castro. Varios foron os seus ilustres moradores, entre eles Dona Urraca que elixiu esta fortaleza como lugar de retiro; outro morador ilustre foi o bispo Acuña, en cuxo castelo se fixo forte ao comezo da guerra das Comunidades de Castela, e en cuxos alxubes tivo preso o famoso alcalde Ronquillo de Fermoselle.

Atópase situado na zona antiga de Fermoselle. Foi construído sobre uns impoñentes farallóns, dende os cales se facilitaba a defensa desta localidade amurallada.

Historia

Existen indicios de que antes da súa construción, o seu soar estivo ocupado por un castro. Segundo fontes de comezos do século XIII, o castelo era propiedade da diocese de Zamora. Anteriormente pertenceu a Dona Urraca, esposa do rei Fernando II de León. Máis tarde, no século XVI foi praza forte na guerra das Comunidades e bastión defensivo fronte á veciña Portugal, chegando a ser tomado durante a guerra de Restauración portuguesa polas tropas dese país en 1654.

Conservación

Parece ser que no século XVIII é obxecto de distintas reparacións polo enxeñeiro Benigno Garrido Marcos. Porén, por unha banda o proceso de ruína do castelo causado polo paso do tempo, e por outra as desafortunadas construcións realizadas no seu soar provocaron que os vestixios se limiten a pequenos lenzos de muralla no seu lado meridional. Xunto a eles quedan restos dunha porta denominada en castelán "La del Villar" ou simplemente "o Arco" por conservar dela o arco apuntado.

Os escasos restos do castelo teñen a protección específica con categoría de BIC, conforme ao Decreto 22 de abril de 1949 sobre Castelos Españois (BOE de 5 de maio)[1].
