John Zorn, nado o 2 de setembro de 1953 en Queens (Nova York), é un compositor e saxofonista estadounidense.

Ten asimilado multitude de influencias, sempre con predilección pola escena underground e as propostas extremas e arriscadas. É o dono do selo discográfico Tzadik, inaugurado en 1995, a través do que edita os seus discos, levando xa máis de cen ás costas.

Traballou en múltiples proxectos, a cada cal máis arriscado. Masada é un deles, un grupo de jazz con influencias moi variadas, abertos á improvisación. Editaron máis de dez discos de estudio e outros en directo. Tamén traballou no mundo das bandas sonoras, levando xa editados 17 discos do seu proxecto Filmworks, nos que recompila eses temas. Gravou tamén discos en solitario e múltiples experimentos musicais para debuxos animados, programacións imposibles, sons abstractos, pezas de cámara, concertos para piano e un sinfín de ideas desenvolvidas xunto a diversos músicos.

Antes de comezar co saxofón e coa composición aprendera a tocar outros instrumentos. O seu método compositivo consiste en crear diversas imaxes e momentos musicais que logo son estruturados e ordenados. É un dos máximos expoñentes da música noise, un estilo collage que fusiona o free, sons electrónicos, efectos, voces deformadas etc. Zorn introduciuse no jazz levado pola súa paixón cara a música contemporánea e tras escoitar a xente como John Cage ou Stockhausen. Na súa música hai tamén influencias de Ennio Morricone e outros compositores de bandas sonoras, reminiscencias da cultura xudía e inspiración en músicos e compositores como Harry Partch ou Charles Ives.
