Tidak ada film yang meraih lebih dari tiga penghargaan di Academy Awards ke-20. Peristiwa tersebut tidak terjadi kembali sampai Academy Awards ke-78.

Rosalind Russell memenangkan penghargaan Aktris Terbaik untuk penampilannya dalam Mourning Becomes Electra,[1] namun Loretta Young memenangkannya untuk The Farmer's Daughter.

James Baskett meraih penghargaan Oscar istimewa untuk perannya sebagai Paman Remus dalam Song of the South, yang membuatnya menjadi Afrika-Amerika pertama dan bintang Walt Disney pertama yang memenangkan sebuah Academy Award untuk akting.[1] Meskipun demikian, organisasi-organisasi hak asasi sipil tidak senang karena menganggap pemeranannya sebagai Afrika-Amerika kurang pantas.

Pada usia 71 tahun, Edmund Gwenn menjadi pemenang Oscar tertua pada waktu itu. Pemenang tertua sebelumnya adalah Charles Coburn, yang berusia 66 tahun pada saat kemenangannya. Pada 1976, George Burns menjadi pemenang Oscar tertua, pada usia 80 tahun.
