Artur Avila Cordeiro de Melo (lahir 29 Juni 1979) adalah matematikawan Brasil dan Prancis yang berkecimpung di bidang sistem dinamika dan teori spektrum. Ia merupakan salah satu pemenang Fields Medal 2014.

Kehidupan

Pada usia 17 tahun, Avila memenangkan medali emas di Olimpiade Matematika Internasional 1995 dan mendapatkan beasiswa untuk melanjutkan pendidikannya di Instituto Nacional de Matemática Pura e Aplicada,[2] lalu lulus dengan gelar PhD pada usia 21 tahun.[3]

Penghargaan

Sebagai matematikawan, ia dianugerahi medali perunggu dari CNRS pada tahun 2006 dan Salem Prize. Ia merupakan anggota Clay Research Fellow. Tahun 2008, ia mendapatkan satu dari sepuluh penghargaan European Mathematical Society, lalu pada tahun 2009, ia dianugerahi Herbrand Prize oleh Akademi Sains Prancis. Avila menjadi pembicara utama di Kongres Matematikawan Internasional 2010.[4] Pada tahun 2011, ia mendapatkan Michael Brin Prize, kemudian pada tahun berikutnya ia dianugerahi Early Career Award oleh International Association of Mathematical Physics.[5] Tahun 2014, ia dianugerahi Fields Medal.[6]
