Atlas Shrugged

Atlas Shrugged merupakan salah satu novel karya Ayn Rand yang dirilis pada 12 Oktober 1957.[1] Novel ini merupakan novel keempat sekaligus novel terakhir dari Ayn Rand sekaligus yang terpanjang (terdiri dari 1200 halaman).[2] Novel ini sering dianggap sebagai karya terbaik (magnum opus) dari Ayn Rand.[3] Novel ini dianggap sebagai perintis dari paham Libertarianisme, suatu paham yang menjunjung kebebasan seorang individu untuk menikmati apa yang mereka raih sendiri melalui kerja kerasnya[1].[3] Selain itu, di dalam novel ini diperkenalkan paham objektivisme secara luas dan menyertakan elemen-elemen misteri, roman, dan fiksi ilmiah.

Fokus utama novel ini adalah cerita di dalam dunia alternatif Amerika Serikat di mana bisnis swasta menderita sebagai akibat hukum dan perundang-undangan yang terlalu mengikat dan kaku. Tokoh utama adalah seorang eksekutif jawatan kereta api Danny Taggart dan kekasihnya serta pengusaha baja Hank Rearden dan istrinya, di mana mereka berdua berjuang melawan perusuh yang berusaha merusak bisnisnya. Di dalam novel ini, diperkenalkan salah satu tokoh yang sering dianggap pahlawan yaitu John Galt.[4]
