Ironi

Ironi (dari bahasa Yunani Kuno εἰρωνεία eirōneía, melalui bahasa Belanda ironie) adalah salah satu jenis majas yang berupa sindiran dengan menyembunyikan fakta yang sebenarnya dan mengatakan kebalikan dari fakta tersebut atau mengungkapkan sindiran halus.[1] Dalam ironi, pengujar menyampaikan sesuatu yang sebaliknya dari apa yang ingin dikatakannya, jadi di sini terdapat satu penanda dengan dua kemungkinan petanda. Ironi mengandung antonimi atau oposisi antara kedua tataran isi. Ironi juga mengandung kesenjangan yang cukup kuat antara makna harfiah dan makna kiasan.[2] Penggunaan ironi dapat terlihat dalam kalimat "Rajin sekali Dia, lima hari tidak masuk sekolah", ironi dalam kalimat tersebut bertujuan untuk menyindir seseorang yang tidak masuk sekolah.[3]
