Elektros kėdė Vakarų Virdžinijoje

Elektros kėdė – iš JAV kilusi bausmės įvykdymo forma, kai asmuo, nuteistas mirties bausme, pasodinamas į specialią kėdę ir pririšamas, prie jo kūno prijungiami elektrodai, o jais paleidžiama aukštos įtampos elektros srovė.[1] Mirtis ištinka dėl širdies veiklos sustojimo, nors anksčiau manyta, kad dėl smegenų pažeidimo.[2] Bausmė tebenaudojama kai kuriose JAV valstijose (Alabama, Arkanzasas, Florida, Misisipė, Oklahoma ir kt.).

Istorija

Pirmasis elektros kėdės panaudojimas 1890 m.

Elektros kėdę sukūrė JAV garlaivių inžinierius ir odontologas Alfred P. Southwick (1826–1898). Pirmąkart ji buvo panaudota 1890 m. rugpjūčio 6 d. Niujorke.[1]
