Paparan plasma

Panel paparan plasma (bahasa Inggeris: plasma display panel, PDP) ialah sejenis paparan panel leper yang kini digunakan terutamanya untuk paparan TV besar (biasanya melebihi 37-inci atau 940 mm). Banyak sel halus yang terletak antara dua panel kaca menampung campuran lengai gas adi (neon dan xenon). Gas dalam sel-sel ini diubah secara elektrik menjadi plasma yang kemudian menguja fosfor untuk memancar cahaya.

Sejarah

Pada tahun 1964, paparan video plasma dicipta oleh Donald Bitzer, H. Gene Slottow dan Robert Willson di Universiti Illinois di Urbana-Champaign untuk Sistem Komputer PLATO. Panel paparan video monokrom (jingga, hijau, kuning) asli itu amat popular pada awal 1970-an kerana tahan lasak dan tidak memerlukan ingatan atau litar untuk menyegar semula imej. Pemerosotan jualan yang berlarutan disaksikan pada lewat 1970-an kerana ingatan semikonduktor menjadikan paparan CRT lebih murah berbanding paparan plasma. Templat:Histfact Sungguhpun begitu, saiz skrin yang lebih besar dan badannya yang nipis menjadikan paparan plasma sesuai untuk penempatan berprofil tinggi di lobi dan pusat bursa saham.

Pada tahun 1983, IBM memperkenalkan model paparan monokrom jingga hitam 19 inci (48 cm) ('panel maklumat' model 3290) yang boleh memaparkan empat sesi terminal mesin maya IBM 3270 serentak. Kilang terlibat dipindahkan ke Plasmaco pada tahun 1987, yang diasaskan Dr. Larry F. Weber, salah seorang penuntut Dr. Bitzer bersama Stephen Globus, dan juga James Kehoe yang merupakan pengurus kilang IBM.

Pada tahun 1992, Fujitsu memperkenalkan paparan warna penuh 21 inci (53 cm) pertama di dunia, iaitu suatu hibrid yang berasaskan paparan plasma yang dicipta di Universiti Illinois dan NHK STRL, mencapai kecerahan lebih tinggi.

Pada tahun 1996, Matsushita Electrical Industries (Panasonic) membeli Plasmaco, teknologi AC warnanya, dan kilang Amerikanya. Pada tahun 1997, Fujitsu memperkenalkan paparan plasma the 42 inci (107 cm) pertama; resolusinya 852x480 berimbas progresif. [1] Pada tahun 1997 juga, Pioneer mula menjual televisyen plasma pertama kepada orang awam. Kebanyakan televisyen plasma terkini lebih nipis dan lebih luas berbanding keluaran plasma sebelumnya. Saiz nipisnya membolehkan paparan plasma bersaing dengan layar pancaran berkeluasan besar.
