Cola Debrotprijs

De Cola Debrotprijs (Premio Cola Debrot), vernoemd naar dichter, schrijver, arts en minister Cola Debrot (1902−1981), is een Curaçaose algemene cultuurprijs, de belangrijkste in het Caribisch deel van het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden.[1] Hij wordt jaarlijks uitgereikt aan personen of organisaties die zich verdienstelijk hebben gemaakt in een van de jaarlijks roulerende categorieën architectuur, beeldende kunst, dans, folklore, literatuur, muziek, theater en wetenschap.[2] De prijs werd ingesteld door het Bestuurscollege van het Eilandgebied Curaçao en voor het eerst uitgereikt bij de opening van de nieuwe schouwburg Centro Pro Arte op 6 september 1968.[3] Sinds 1969, het tweede jaar, vindt de prijsuitreiking gewoonlijk plaats op 4 mei, de geboortedag van Cola Debrot. De prijs bestaat uit een gouden speldje met rozet (voorstellende de larahabloem) op een groen lint, een oorkonde en een geldsom.[4]
