Aust-Asia er ein region som omfattar dei austlege delane av Asia, i det minste landa Kina, Japan, Sør-Korea og Nord-Korea. I SN sin definisjon blir også Mongolia og Taiwan rekna med.[1]

Definisjonen av Aust-Asia kan vera geografisk[2] eller kulturell.[3][4] Geografisk og geopolitisk omfattar regionen Kina, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Japan, Mongolia, Nord-Korea og Sør-Korea.[2][3][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12]

I ei meir kulturell tyding reknar ein ofte med dei delane av austlege Asia som historisk har vore mest påverka av Kina til Aust-Asia. Kina, Japan, Korea og Vietnam høyrer til den austasiatiske kultursirkelen.[13][14] Til dømes kan ein sjå at kinesisk skrift i ulike formerer blitt brukt i Japan, Sør-korea og Taiwan, og i Vietnam fram till koloniseringa av landet. Kinesisk litteratur var også del av ei klassisk utdanning i heile regionen.
