Johanna Dorothea Sinding (født 13. juli 1854 i Trondheim, dødsår ukjent) var en norsk billedhugger.

Familie

Hun var datter av Mathias Wilhelm Sinding (1811-1860) og Cecilie Marie Mejdell (1817-1886).[3]

Hun var søster av komponisten Christian Sinding (1856-1941), billedhuggeren Stephan Sinding (1846-1922) og maleren Otto Sinding (1842-1909).[4] Maleren Elisabeth Sinding var hennes kusine.

Utdannelse

Johanna Sindings lærere i skulpturfaget var billedhuggeren Albert Wolff og hennes eldre bror Stephan.[5] Wolff hadde også vært Stephan Sindings lærer i Berlin, og også Ambrosia Tønnesen studerte hos ham.[6]

Kunstnerkarriere

I 1876 stilte hun ut skulpturen «Høk med sitt bytte» i Kunstforeningen i Christiania, og i 1879 stilte hun ut skulpturene «Gribb og hejre» og «Resignasjon» samme sted. Hun stilte også ut på Høstutstillingen i 1894 og i 1895.[7]

I 1896 mottok Johanna Sinding et statlig kunstnerstipend på 1500 kroner. Ved samme tildeling fikk også maleren Thorolf Holmboe, malerinnen Elisabeth Sinding og komponist Johan Backer Lunde stipend på 1500 kroner, mens pianistinne Lizzie Winge og skuespiller Gustav Thomassen fikk tildelt 750 kroner, og arkitekt H. Sinding Larsen fikk tildelt 500 kroner.[8][9] Samtlige åtte kunstnere fikk tildelingen som reisestipend for reiser i utlandet.[10]

Salomonsens konversationsleksikons 1902-utgave inneholdt et lengre kapittel om Norges Kunst, med omtale av samtidens skulpturkunst. Som eksempel på «dygtige Kunstnere» i «(d)en yngste Generation», fremhevet artikkelforfatteren blant andre «frk. Sinding».[11]

Johanna ble tidlig rammet av alvorlig sykdom, og døde i forholdsvis ung alder.[12]
