Pål Wergeland Lorentzen (født 19. juli 1941 i Hosanger ved Bergen) er en norsk høyesterettsadvokat med særlig engasjement for ytringsfrihet og rettssikkerhet[1]. Han var formann i Advokatforeningens hovedstyre fra 1988 til 1991.

Utdannelse

Lorentzen har examen artium på reallinjen fra 1960 og juridisk embetseksamen fra Universitetet i Oslo fra 1968. I 1970-1971 hadde han studieopphold i Cambridge og London. Han fikk bevilling som advokat i 1971 og bevilling som høyesterettsadvokat i 1976.

Virksomhet

Lorentzen var dommerfullmektig ved Lofoten sorenskriverembete i 1969-1970 og advokatfullmektig i Advokatfirmaet Greve, Greve og Greve i Bergen fra 1971. I 1976 ble han partner i advokatfirmaet som etter fusjon i 1991 skiftet navn til Thommessen, Krefting, Greve, Lund, senere forkortet til Thommessen. Lorentzen har ført en rekke saker for Høyesterett og også prosedert for Menneskerettsdomstolen i Strasbourg.

Tillitsverv som advokat

Lorentzen var formann for advokatene i Bergen, Hordaland og Sogn og Fjordane krets av Den norske advokatforening i 1980-1982 og medlem av hovedstyret for Den norske advokatforening i 1984-1991. Fra 1988 til 1991 var han formann i hovedstyret. I 1994-2004 var han formann for foreningens rettssikkerhetsutvalg. I 2009 ble han oppnevnt som medlem av Stortingets menneskerettighetsutvalg[2] som etter oppdrag fra Stortingets presidentskap, utarbeidet forslag til nye menneskerettighetsbestemmelser i Grunnloven[3].

Andre tillitsverv

I studietiden stiftet Lorentzen musikkorpset Corpsus Juris ved juridisk fakultet i Oslo. Han var også revysjef for Blindernrevyen. Tilbake i Bergen ble han i 1983 medlem av styret for Bergen filharmoniske orkester. Fra 1997 til 2008 var han styreleder. Han ble medlem av styret for Festspillene i Bergen i 1992 og ble av Kulturdepartementet utpekt til styreleder der fra 2008 til 2012[4]. Lorentzen har også vært styreleder i Kavlifondet og i Sparebanken Vest. I 2010 tok han initiativet til etableringen av Norsk klimastiftelse hvor han også ble styreleder[5].
