Rione Regola


Regola er bydel (rione) nr 7 i Roma, Italia, den tilhører Municipio I. I henhold til byens nomanklatur benevnes bydelen ofte med forkortelsen R. VII. Navnet kommer fra Arenula (navnet er gjenkjennelig i den moderne Via Arenula), som var navnet på den myke sanden (rena på italiensk) som elven Tiber etterlot seg etter flommene, og som laget strender på venstre (sør-østre) bredd. Innbyggerne i bydelen kalles Regolanti. De fikk kallenavnet mangiacode ('halespisere'), etter den typiske retten coda alla vaccinara, som var en spesialitet for de mange vaccinariene ('slakterne') i bydelen.

Seglet til bydelen består en oppreist hjort med en turkis bakgrunn. Selv om bydelen er liten inneholder den mange slags bygninger: palasser, sykehus, kirker, ambassader, gamle fengsler, topp moderne bygninger og nedslitte hus.

Historie

Under det romerske imperiet tilhørte området Campus Martius. Innenfor det som i dag er det moderne Regola lå Trigarium, stadion der rytterne av trigaen (en vogn med tre hester) pleide å trene. Da keiser Augustus delte Roma i 14 regioner, tilhørte dagens Regola IX-region kalt Circus Flaminius. I middelalderen kom den inn i den fjerde av de syv nye kirkelige områdene, selv om rioni-grensene på den tiden ikke var veldig klare. På grunn av de svært hyppige flommene i elven Tiber, var området usunt, og det ble drenert på slutten av middelalderen. I 1586, da rione Borgo ble etablert, økte antallet rioni til 14, og Regola ble den 7. med navnet Arenulae et Chacabariorum. Etterhvert ble navnet Arenulae til Regola. I 1875 ble det bygget murer langs elven for å stoppe de mange flommene. Dette endret utseendet på området fullstendig, og alt som hadde kommet pga nærheten til elven i løpet av århundrene ble borte.

Geografi

Bydelen ligger sentralt i byen intil Tiberen, elven er grensen til Ripa (R. XII) mot sør og vest. Mot nord grenser Regola til Ponte (R. V), Parione (R. VI), og mot Sant'Eustachio (R. VIII). I øst grenser den til Sant'Angelo (R. XI).
