Støperi

Støperi er en virksomhet som er utstyrt for produksjon av gjenstander ved å støpe dem og deretter etterarbeide dem til et ferdig produkt. Det finnes ulike typer støperi etter hvilket råstoff som blir benyttet, hvilke produkt som blir lagd, eller hvilken støpemetode som blir brukt. En kan finne støperi i bygninger, fabrikker eller andre lokaler.

Et jernstøperi benytter støpejern som råstoff, for eksempel for å lage kumlokk, peiser og vedovner, steikepanner eller annet. Metallstøperi er betegnelsen på støperi som benytter andre typer metall som råstoff, for eksempel bronse. Er det skulpturer eller andre kunstgjenstander som er produktet, blir støperiet ofte kalt kunststøperi. Kirkeklokker og andre klokker blir støpt i et klokkestøperi. Lys av stearin og liknende blir fremstilt i et lysestøperi. Det finnes støperi for å masseprodusere gjenstander av gips, og ulike typer støperi for støping av gjenstander av plast.

En fagarbeider som har jern- eller metallstøping som yrke, blir kalt støper, men den gamle betegnelsen gjørtler, som skriver seg fra middelalderen, blir fremdeles benyttet i noen støperier om en håndverker som har som yrke å støpe og gjøre etterarbeid på små gjenstander.
