Upernavik er en by i Avannaata kommune, nordvest på Grønland. Bosettingen ligger på øya ved samme navn. Byen hadde 1067 innbyggere i 2018.[1]

Navnet betyr «vårstedet», dette viser at det var her man begynte fisket når isen brøt opp om våren.[trenger referanse] Stedet ble etablert i 1772.[trenger referanse]

Upernavik i kulturen

Upernavik er åsted for deler av handlingen i Jules Vernes satiriske roman La Chasse au météore (posthumt 1908). Det er på denne lille øya den ettersøkte ildkulen fra himmelen til slutt slår ned.[2]
