Ronald Levin Carter (born May 4, 1937)^[1] is an American jazz double bassist. He appeared in over 2,220 recording sessions, making him the most-recorded jazz bassist in history.^[2]

Carter has three Grammy Awards.^[3] Carter is also a cellist who has recorded many times on that instrument.^[4]
