Sadako Ogata, née Nakamura (緒方 貞子, Ogata Sadako, 16 September 1927 – 22 October 2019) was a Japanese academic, diplomat, author, administrator, and professor emeritus at Sophia University.[1] She served as United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) from 1991 to 2000. She also served as the Chairwoman of the UNICEF Executive Board[2][3] and as the President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Ogata died on 22 October 2019 in Tokyo at the age of 92; her death was announced on 29 October.[4]
