Meriwether Lewis ve William Clark

Lewis ve Clark Keşifleri, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri başkanı Thomas Jefferson tarafından seçilerek daha önce Fransa'dan satın alınan Louisiana Bölgesini (Bu topraklar şimdi Orta ve Batı Amerika Birleşik Devletlerini oluşturmaktadır.) keşfetmeleri amacıyla görevlendirilen Meriwether Lewis (1774-1809) ve William Clark (1770-1838) tarafından yapılan keşiflerdir. Lewis ve Clark 1804 yılında Saint Louis'den 33 kişilik bir grupla ayrıldılar.[1] Grup üyeleri yolda Batı'dan birçok yer gezdiler ve gördüklerini yazdılar. 1806 yılında ise Pasifik Okyanusu'na ulaştılar. Yol boyunca gruba rehberlik eden Sacagawea adında bir Kızılderili kadın katıldı.[2] Keşifler sonunda Lewis Louisiana Bölgesi Valisi[3] ve Clark Missouri Bölgesi Valisi oldu.[4]
