Maria Mandl

Maria Mandl (ayrıca Mandel diye yazılır; (d. 10 Ocak 1912 – ö. 24 Ocak 1948), Avusturyalı bir SS-Helferin (Kadın SS Yardımcısı). Auschwitz-Birkenau toplama kampının üst düzey yetkilisi olarak, Holokost'ta anahtar rolündeydi. 500.000 kadın mahkûmunn ölümünden doğrudan suçlu bulunmuştur.[1]

Mandl, Yukarı Avusturya'da, Münzkirchen'de doğdu. Avusturya-Macaristan İmparatorluğu'da bir ayakkabıcının kızıydı. Nazi Almanyası tarafından Anschluss gerçekleştikten sonra Münih'e taşındı ve 15 Ekim 1938 tarihinde, Lichtenburg'da bir Aufseherin olarak elli SS kadınla Saksonya eyaletinde Nazi toplama kampına giderek kamp personeline katıldı. 15 Mayıs 1939 tarihinde, diğer çalışanlar ve mahkûmlar ile birlikte, Berlin yakınlarında yeni açılan Ravensbrück Toplama Kampına gönderildi. Hızlı bir şekilde üstlerini etkiledi ve, 1 Nisan 1941 tarihinde Nazi Partisi'ne katıldı. Nisan 1942 yılında bir SS-Oberaufseherin rütbesine yükseldi.

Maria Mandel, Auschwitz'in I. ve II. gaz odalarında tahmini olarak yarım milyon kadın ve çocukları ölüme gönderen mahkûmların listelerini imzalamıştır.

Mandl, Hizmetlerinden dolayı 2. sınıf Savaş Liyakat Haçı madalyasına layık görüldü.

Kasım 1944 yılında Dachau Toplama Kampının yan kampı Mühldorf'a atandı ve Elisabeth Volkenrath onun yerine Auschwitz'in başına geçti. Auschwitz Ocak 1945'te müttefikler tarafından kurtarılmıştır.

Mayıs 1945 yılında Mandl Mühldorf'ten kaçtı ve güney Bavyera dağlarına, doğduğu Münzkirchen'e gitti. Amerika Birleşik Devletleri Ordusu tarafından 10 Ağustos 1945 tarihinde tutuklandı. Kasım 1946 yılında Polonya Cumhuriyetine teslim edildi ve Kasım 1947 yılında Krakov'da Mahkemede yargılandı ve asılarak idama mahkûm edildi.[2] Mandl, 24 Ocak 1948 tarihinde 36 yaşında idam edildi.
