Katta T.da mamlakat sanoat mahsulotining 1/4 qismi ishlab chiqariladi. Asosiy sanoat tarmoklari: umumiy mashinasozlik, metallsozlik, elektrotexnika, radio elektronika, poligrafiya, kimyo, texnikrezina. Shuningdek, farmatsevtika, koʻnpoyabzal, tikuvchilik, oziq-ovqat sanoatlari ham rivojlangan. Metropoliten qurilgan. 2 unt, Ontario qirollik muzeyi, badiiy galereya bor.

Toronto oʻrnida XVII asrda indeyslar qishlogʻi, XVIII asrda fransuzlarning savdo manzilgohi, keyinroq fort boʻlgan. 1793-yilda inglizlar kelib oʻrnashgan (1834-yilgacha Yorkdebatalgan). 1793—1841-yillarda inglizlar mustamlakasi Yuqori Kanadaning maʼmuriy markazi. 1837— 38 yillarda mustamlakachilarga qarshi kurash markazi boʻlgan.

Meʼmoriy yodgorliklaridan yogʻoch devorlar va York qalʼasi qoldiqlari, sud binosi va boshqa sakdangan. Zamonaviy binolardan 72 qavatli bino va balandligi 553 m li teleminora kurilgan.
