2023年3月31日，PLEDIS娛樂宣布將發行迷你專輯《FML》。[2]歌曲名稱《孫悟空》於4月20日公開。[3]包含音樂錄影帶片段的預告片於4月23日和4月24日在YouTube上發布。[4][5]為紀念Seventeen粉絲「Carats」八週年，歌曲的「Workout」混音版本於2024年2月16日發布。[6]

歌曲創作

這首歌的韓文標題同時指的是中國古典小說《西游记》中的神話人物孙悟空，[7]以及日本動漫《七龍珠Z》中的主角孫悟空，這個角色也大部分基於孫悟空創作而來。這首歌在主題上受到《七龍珠Z》的啟發，[8]歌曲副歌中的一句歌詞「마치 된 것 같아 손오공」（彷彿化身為孫悟空）配合的是用兩根手指指向額頭的動作，這象徵著悟空的瞬間移動技能。[8]

在音樂上，這首歌是一首具有強勁節奏的替代泽西俱乐部風格歌曲。它是以G♯大調創作，速度為每分鐘137拍。[9]
