Botrychium paradoxum adalah spesies paku dalam keluarga Ophioglossaceae[2] yang dikenal dengan nama umum peculiar moonwort. Spesies ini adalah tanaman asli Amerika Utara, dengan keberadaan yang tersebar di Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Washington, dan Wyoming.[3]

Tanaman ini unik di antara kelompok moonwort. Sementara spesies lain umumnya menghasilkan satu ental fertil dan satu steril, spesies ini hanya menghasilkan ental fertil. Ental ini memiliki dua segmen, yang keduanya menghasilkan spora.[4] Tanaman ini tumbuh hingga setinggi 15 sentimeter (5,9 in). Karena ental steril yang menyerupai daun tidak ada, tanaman ini kemungkinan besar memperoleh sebagian besar energinya dari mikoriza alih-alih melalui fotosintesis.[3]

Paku ini tumbuh di zona montane, subalpine, dan alpine di ladang salju dan hutan western red cedar.[4][3]

Taksonomi

Botrychium paradoxum pertama kali dideskripsikan oleh Herb Wagner pada tahun 1981, berdasarkan spesimen yang dikumpulkannya di Deerlodge National Forest.[5]
