Labu Florence merupakan suatu jenis labu yang digunakan sebagai bagian dari peralatan gelas laboratorium. Labu ini digunakan sebagai wadah untuk menyimpan cairan. Sebuah labu Florence memiliki badan bulat, satu leher panjang, dan dasar yang rata. Labu ini dirancang untuk pemanasan yang seragam, pendidihan, dan distilasi; labu ini diproduksi dengan ketebalan kaca yang berbeda untuk berbagai jenis penggunaan. Labu ini sering terbuat dari kaca borosilikat untuk ketahanan panas dan kimia.[1][2] Labu Florence tradisional biasanya tidak memiliki sambungan dasar gelas pada leher mereka yang agak panjang, tetapi biasanya memiliki sedikit bibir atau flange di sekitar ujung leher. Volume yang umum untuk labu Florence adalah 1 liter.[3]

Penggunaan

Labu Florence, juga disebut labu mendidih, dirancang khusus untuk pendidihan kuat. Labu Florence lebih kuat dari labu Erlenmeyer, dan cenderung tidak mudah pecah. Labu Florence dapat digunakan untuk memanaskan cairan atau menyimpan cairan. Labu Florence umum digunakan sebagai bejana reaksi dalam distilasi, refluks atau operasi sejenis.[3][4]

Sangat penting untuk memeriksa Labu Florence atau setiap bagian dari alat laboratorium yang terbuat dari kaca sebelum digunakan untuk pemanasan atau pendinginan serta memakai kacamata demi keselamatan ketika perubahan suhu terjadi pada alat. Tidak semestinya gelas atau kaca lemah dipanaskan karena dapat hancur ketika suhu berubah. Selain itu, bahan kimia tertentu dapat melemahkan kaca.
