Octopus adalah genus terbesar gurita, yang terdiri atas 100 spesies lebih. Spesies tersebut tersebar di seluruh samudra dunia. Sejumlah spesies dalam genus ini telah dipindahkan ke dalam genus lain dalam famili Octopodidae.[1][2]
