Pasir hijau

Pasir hijau adalah pasir atau batu pasir yang warnanya kehijauan. Istilah ini secara khusus merujuk kepada sedimen laut dangkal yang mengandung jumlah butir bulan kehijauan yang kasat mata yang terdiri dari campuran mineral tanah liat lapisan-campuran, seperti smektit dan glaukonit. "Pasir hijau" juga secara lebih samar merujuk kepada sedimen glaukonitik apapun.[1][2][3]

Pasir hijau terbentuk pada lingkungan samudra anoksik yang kaya akan detritus organik dan memiliki masukan sedimen yang rendah.[1] Karena terakumulasi di lingkungan laut, pasir hijau dapat menyandang banyak fosil, seperti yang ditemukan di deposit Kapur Akhir di New Jersey, Amerika Serikat.[4]
