Profase adalah tahap pertama pembelahan sel pada mitosis. Seperti yang terjadi setelah G2 interfase, DNA siap bereplikasi saat profase dimulai.[1]

Profase (dari kata Yunani πρό, "sebelum" dan φάσις, "tahap") adalah tahap pertama pembelahan sel pada mitosis dan meiosis. Bermula setelah interfase, DNA tereplikasi saat sel memasuki profase. Kejadian utama pada profase adalah kondensasi retikulum kromatin dan menghilangnya nukleolus.[3]
