Sel oval

Sel oval adalah sel progenitor diploid hasil diferensiasi sel punca yang bermukim pada kanal Hering.[1] Proliferasi sel oval akan membentuk saluran ekskresi yang menyebar ke dalam area terjadinya kerusakan parenkima pada hati atau menjadi hepatosit, namun disamping peran positif tersebut, sel oval ditengarai menjadi target karsinogen hepatik yang berperan dalam kanker hati.[2]

Sel oval memiliki fenotipe morfologi epitelial dengan ekspresi OV-6, BD-1, BD-2 dan D1k sebagai atribut sel progenitor hepatik, sitokeratin-19 sebagai atribut kolangiosit dan AFP, albumin sebagai atribut hepatosit.[3] Induksi sodium butirat akan memicu diferensiasi sel oval menjadi sel hepatosit yang memiliki kapasitas sebagai sel penyimpan glikogen, sekretor albumin dan perombak amonia dengan lintasan ureagenesis.
