Sequoites adalah genus tumbuhan yang telah punah yang hidup dari periode Kretaseus hingga Miosen di seluruh Amerika Utara (Kanada, Greenland, dan Amerika Serikat) serta Eropa (Austria, Ceko, Prancis, Inggris, Jerman, dan Swedia).[2] Awalnya dideskripsikan sebagai pohon konifer dalam genus Sequoia,[3] genus ini kemudian diidentifikasi sebagai genus terpisah yang diklasifikasikan ke dalam famili Cupressaceae.[4]

Sepuluh spesies telah diidentifikasi sejak genus ini diberi nama pada tahun 1849 oleh Adolphe-Théodore Brongniart.[1][2]
