Supositoria gliserin

Supositoria adalah sediaan padat yang digunakan melalui dubur, memiliki bentuk seperti torpedo mampu melunak, larut, atau meleleh pada suhu tubuh.[1]

Bahan dasar yang sering dipakai untuk pembuatan supositoria adalah lemak cokelat (Oleum Cacao), polietilen glikol atau lemak tengkawang (Oleum Shoreae) atau gelatin.[1]

Penggunaan obat dengan sediaan supositoria memiliki keuntungan tersendiri sebagai berikut:[1]

  • Dapat menghindari iritasi pada lambung.
  • Dapat menghindari kerusakan obat oleh enzim pencernaan.
  • Dapat masuk saluran darah sehingga efek lebih cepat jika dibandingkan penggunaan obat melalui oral.
  • Dapat digunakan untuk pasien yang tidak sadar diri.
