Trimer adalah suatu molekul atau anion yang dibentuk secara alami karena kombinasi dari tiga molekul atau ion dari zat yang sama.

Dimetilsilanediol mengalami dehidrasi lalu akan menjadi trimer dari Me 2 SiO dan juga polidimetilsiloksan. Reaksi tersebut menggambarkan persaingan antara trimerisasi dengan polimerisasi. Polimer dan trimer secara formal berasal dari hipotetis sila-keton :
Me 2 Si = O,
meskipun spesies tersebut memang bukanlah perantara.[2]
